Projects

World War II Era Manufacturing Facility, Birdsboro, Pennsylvania

The Power of One

Prior to the new construction of a combined cycle power plant at this former manufacturing facility, EIG was contracted to completely demolish and abate the site. During execution, EIG also discovered hazardous materials and immediately commenced environmental remediation. Because EIG is a demolition contractor as well as an experienced remediation contractor, we were able to provide turnkey service to seamlessly finish the job and keep construction on schedule as we performed the removal and disposal of the unforeseen contaminated soil.

Bridging Abilities

This unique demolition project required careful dismantling, as our scope of work was located just 65 feet beneath the footprint of the new bridge. EIG performed demolition of the highway and ramp approaches. Utilizing dozens of pieces of heavy equipment, highly skilled workers from several unions, along with our own project management teams, EIG was able to complete this high-profile public project under difficult conditions.

Mission Decommission

No longer economically viable, the 50-megawatt nuclear energy power plant, originally utilized by the federal government as a demonstration facility, was forced to close down. After 30 years of not producing power, EIG was retained to perform the demolition work.

Over the course of two years, EIG demolished the reactor, turbine building, turbine foundations and all underground utilities associated with plant operations. Additionally, EIG removed internal components and performed the demolition of multiple structures, including the 350’ stack (via non-explosive methods), waste water treatment facility and underground utilities.
